At the University Library you can read newspapers on microfilm or at the newspaper computer. Microfilm and the newspaper computer are in the basement floor. You can also request newspaper originals from our external storage and read them in the Special Collections Reading Room.
Newspapers on microfilm
You can read newspapers on microfilm located in the basement. The basement floor are open when the library is open and you do not need to request microfilms before your visit.
You will find instructions on how to use the microfilms in the microfilm reading rooms. If you need help, call the Newspaper Support at 046-222 14 80. The support is open weekdays 1−3 pm.
We have two digital microfilm scanners where you can save microfilmed articles onto a USB stick or make a printout. You can print in the A4 and A3 formats. Manuals are available by the printers.
You will need a copy card in order to print newspaper pages from the microfilm. You can buy a copy card for the microfilm readers at the information desk.
Search Swedish newspapers and book the newspaper computer
Everyone can search the service “Svenska dagstidningar (Swedish Newspapers)". Access to read is free for articles published before 1904.
If you want to read articles published after 1904, you can book a time on our newspaper computer located in the basement. You can book a maximum of 2 hours / day.
You need a computer login in order to search and read articles on the newspaper computer. Activating your account may take 15-30 minutes. Please arrive half an hour before your booking begins.
You can request newspapers in original print format
You can request newspaper originals from our external storage. You read them in the Special Collections Reading Room. Newspapers are available Wednesdays after 10 am in the Special Collections Reading Room, if you request them at the latest on Monday the same week.
Newspapers which are microfilmed or electronically available are only collected in original print format if you need them for special research purposes. We also have newspapers which cannot be handled due to their fragile condition.
Please note that you need to book a seat in advance in the Special Collections Reading Room.
