What material can you find at the University Library?
The University Library has been building up its collections since it was founded in 1666; the manuscripts and printed material now cover more than 110 000 metres of shelf space. The collections span more than two thousand years and all subject areas are represented.

Did you know that the University Library receives a legal deposit copy of every item published in Sweden? Pursuant to the Legal Deposit Act, the University Library is to receive, preserve and make available all Swedish publications. This is why our collections expand by approximately 600 metres per year, and just over two metres per day: advertisements, IKEA catalogues, books, pizza menus, instruction manuals for cars and tools, daily newspapers, scholarly journals, school directories, postcards, advent calendars, annual reports, women’s magazines, junior football newsletters, fiscal registers, election campaign posters, theatre programmes, Donald Duck comics, parish newsletters, cycling maps and bus timetables. All this and much more besides is to be found at the University Library!

In addition to the printed material, the collections also cover four kilometres of shelving containing manuscripts, personal archives and image collections. The University Library also maintains and provides access to one of the country’s largest collections of licensed and free electronic journal articles and e-books.
