Publishing agreements and discounts

Through different types of publishing agreements, researchers at Lund University can publish open access with easier handling of the administrative processes and with negotiated costs. On this page you find out about what agreements you can use, and how.

Publishing agreements for open access

Through national agreements, negotiated by the National Library of Sweden, researchers at Lund University can take advantage of discounts and subsidized or fully prepaid author fees to publish open access in hybrid journals and in pure open access journals. Hybrid journals are subscription-based journals with an open access option.

The agreements only cover the author fee/APC. Any additional page- or color charges are not included in any of the agreements.

Conditions for using the agreements

  • The corresponding author must be affiliated with Lund University and state the affiliation in the article.
  • LU / LTH email address. Always use the institutional email address (ending with “lu.se” or “lth.se”) at any stage of the publishing process and in contact with the publisher. This is to ensure the identification of LU corresponding authors and eligible articles.

Costs of publishing open access at Lund University

When publishing open access, the entire amount for the APC or BPC is initially paid by the University Library. Parts of the cost of publishing (within the agreements, those paid with the extra publishing support or the Book fund) are later invoiced to the faculties. Depending on how your faculty choose to handle the costs, you may have to pay a part of the publication fee later on.

The allocation model for Lund University's publishing costs was decided by the vice-chancellor in 2022.

Open access journals not covered by an agreement

Publishing in open access journals that are not included in any of the publishing agreements may be eligible for funding. For these journals the entire cost for the APC is initially paid by the University Library. Parts of the cost of the APC is later allocated and invoiced to the faculties. Depending on how your faculty chooses to handle the costs, you may have to pay a part of the publication fee at a later stage.

Other memberships and discounts

Lund University researchers can sometimes also get a discount on the APC cost in journals not included in an agreement:

  • If the journal is published by a society of which you are a member, for example BPS, APS.
  • If Lund University subscribes to the journal.
