Open access publishing agreements
Researchers at Lund University can take advantage of several agreements to publish open access with reduced or fully covered author fees. The agreements cover both hybrid and fully open access journals. Learn how the agreements work and how to use them.
Publishing agreements for open access
Through national publisher agreements, researchers at Lund University can receive reduced or fully covered article processing charges (APCs) when publishing. These agreements apply to both hybrid journals – funded through a combination of subscriptions and APCs – and fully open access journals. If a journal is not covered by any agreement, researchers can apply for separate financial support for publication.
The agreements cover the author fee (APC) only. Additional costs, such as page or colour charges, are not included.
Conditions for using the agreements
- the corresponding author must be affiliated with Lund University
- state the affiliation to Lund University in the published article
Always use your university email address when submitting a paper to ensure that it is correctly identified as part of an agreement.
Journals not covered by an agreement
Publishing in open access journals that are not covered by existing publishing agreements may still be eligible for funding.

Handling costs for open access
When publishing with open access, the University Library initially covers the publication fee, for articles and books.
Some costs are allocated and invoiced to the faculties at a later stage. This includes publications covered by publishing agreements, the additional publication funding, and the book fund. In some cases, researchers may need to contribute, depending on how the faculty manages these costs.
Lund University’s model for allocating publishing costs was established by the Vice-Chancellor in 2022.
