Interlibrary loans

As a student or staff member, you can request interlibrary loans at your subject library. The University Library only processes interlibrary loan requests for specific groups. Other libraries can borrow materials from the University Library.

The University Library requests interlibrary loans from other libraries for the following groups:

  • Students and staff of Lund University’s specialised centres.
  • Staff members of Lund University’s central administration.
  • Emeriti from all faculties at Lund University.

If you are not affiliated with Lund University, we refer you to your local public library.

You can request items not part of the collections of the libraries at Lund University as interlibrary loans.

Check if the material is available at the libraries using Finn (finn.lub.lu.se).

Materials available for interlibrary loan include:

  • Books (not e-books)
  • Articles (not entire journal issues or full years)
  • Chapters from e-books (if licences permit interlibrary loan).

  • Copies of articles: SEK 80.
  • Borrowing books from libraries within the Nordic countries is free.
  • Borrowing books from libraries outside the Nordic countries: SEK 150.

Please note that prices may vary if the relevant lending library applies additional fees.

It usually takes 1-2 weeks before an interlibrary loan is available for pick-up. Copies of articles are typically delivered more quickly.

You will get notified by email when your interlibrary loan is available.

Loan periods may vary from time to time since the lending library determines them.

  • printed journals,
  • reference materials,
  • printed items older than a hundred years,
  • manuscripts,
  • maps,
  • images,
  • printed ephemera,
  • newspapers and
  • other fragile or difficult-to-handle materials.

Articles from journals and material that can be copied onto 25 A4 pages are scanned and emailed to publicly funded Swedish libraries. The receiving library may not release the scanned copy electronically; the article must be printed and handed to the borrower.
