Doctoral theses

Make sure your doctoral thesis gets the availability and attention it deserves!
We recommend that you make your doctoral thesis freely available online when you register it. If you or the University owns the rights to your doctoral thesis, you decide whether or not you want your doctoral thesis to be made available electronically. Naturally, if your doctoral thesis, or parts of it, is published by external publishers, this must be taken into consideration, but it is often still possible to publish your doctoral thesis in various forms.

Registering a doctoral thesis

In order to register your doctoral thesis, you will need a LUCAT username and password. Registrations are made in the research information system, LUCRIS. Electronic registration involves making the public defence of your doctoral thesis known and should, therefore, be carried out in good time before the event. Contact the secretary at your faculty for information regarding the registration deadline.

Publishing a doctoral thesis in full text

If you or the University is the publisher of your doctoral thesis, the full text (usually a pdf file) can be made publicly available in LUCRIS, something that we highly recommend, in line with the University’s publishing policy (in Swedish).

ISBN for a doctoral thesis

Before your doctoral thesis is printed, it must have a unique ID. This is called an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and is usually printed on the flyleaf of the doctoral thesis. Since electronically published books have a separate number, the doctoral thesis will be given two ISBNs, one for the printed version and one for the digital version. Both ISBNs should appear on both versions.
