Find your way around

The basement floor, the entrance floor, the first floor and the third floor are open to the public at UB.

Basement floor

Café UB is located in the basement, which you reach by stairs directly to the right as you enter the entrance.

In the other part of the basement is the Special Collections Reading Room, where you can read manuscripts, ephemera, newspapers and other fragile material. Here you will also find the library’s newspapers on microfilm, microfilm readers and a special newspaper computer. This part of the basement is reached by lift or stairs in the east corner of the entrance floor (far to the right towards the SOL buildings (the Centre for Languages and Literature).

You will find Bromansalen directly to the right when you enter our foyer. In the foyer and further into the entrance hall our latest exhibition is on view.

On the entrance floor you will find the Information Desk directly to the left after the entrance and exhibition foyer. You can get help with your questions or pick up your reading room loans at the Information Desk. Close by is a self-service machine for checking in and out books, and there is also a room with printers/copiers.

If you have requested books from storage, you will find the pick-up shelves to the right of the Information Desk.

There are three silent reading rooms and also bookable group study rooms, as well as plenty of computers.

On the entrance floor you can also read newspapers and journals.

The reference collection holds encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, bibliographies, maps and legal texts. Older literature can be located through Catalogue -1957.

First floor

Our first floor is accessed either by the stairs towards the north or middle of the entrance floor or by the stairs/lift to the left of the Information Desk.

Here are group work areas, Ekmanska grupprummet and several study places.

Swedish parliamentary documents are also placed here, and in the eastern part of the building (to the right with a view of the SOL buildings) you will find the scholars’ reading rooms Scriptoriet and Collijnska rummet.

Third floor

You can reach this floor either by the stairs in the south-east corner of the building (far right towards the SOL-buildings) or by the lift on the left side of the Information Desk.

The third floor is home to the Open Collection with newer academic literature. The books here are available for you to pick off the shelves.You can borrow them using a self check-out machine located in the middle of the floor. 

Group work areas are located in the east part of the building (towards the SOL buildings).
