 . This is both because of the direct energy and resource demands of genera
 tive AI\, and because of the role that AI systems play in shaping informat
 ion practices\, and consumer and political preferences. In his presentatio
 n\, James White argues that so-called rebound and ripple effects require u
 s to think carefully about how we are accounting for and attempting to int
 ervene upon the environmental sustainability of AI.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;James Whi
 te is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Technology and Societ
 y at Lund University. He studies the role of expertise in decision-making 
 and governance at the intersection of digital technology and the environme
 nt.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;About the Chat SDG - Research on and with AI seriesThis i
 s one of three presentations on the theme “Chat SDG – research on and 
 with AI”\, arranged by the Arena group for sustainability questions/Agen
