Lund University has one of the largest digital libraries in Sweden.

One of the reasons why Lund’s electronic library is so extensive is that all subject areas (except for veterinary science, the military and agriculture) are represented at Lund University. In order for studies and research to be conducted, adequate and relevant electronic resources of various kinds must be available.

At the end of 2015 Lund University had:

  • 297 560 e-books
  • 17 312 e-journals
  • 202 databases

The e-resources are searchable via the services LUBsearch, Databases A–Z and ePublications. Many of the resources can also be searched for via LIBRIS, Google or Google scholar.

The number of licensed ebooks has increased every year since Lund University Libraries began purchases in 2005, and increased further in 2008 when Lund University Libraries started buying the complete Springer English/International Collection. The changes that the Royal Library (KB) made to their survey for the official Swedish library statistics accounts for the downward curve in 2013. When the Royal Library (KB) changed the survey again in 2014, the number of titles increased.

Electronic journals are as a rule purchased in packages and collections, rarely as individual titles, and for that reason the curve begins at a high. One of the reasons for the fluctuation of the curve over the years is that many e-journal packages are subscriptions, not perpetual purchases, and when a subscription is cancelled the e-journals disappear from the holdings. Another reason is the same as for the e-books, when the Royal Library (KB) changes the way e-resources are counted in the survey for the official library statistics the curve also changes.
