ProBok
ProBok is a database of bookbindings and provenances developed at the university libraries in Uppsala and Lund. The task of creating a platform and structure, together with the registering of a number of examples in the database has been financed by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.
The database covers the hand-press and early machine-press period (up to 1870). It contains information on the form, material and decoration of bindings, together with marks of ownership and other traces of reading and use. ProBok is open for registering to all libraries and museums with collections of older books. The information is linked to each book's bibliographic record in LIBRIS, the national library catalogue.
The purpose of ProBok is to make information about the material aspects of the book available to everyone interested in book history, both scientists and the general public. ProBok is free to search and use for everyone interested.
